BRUNSWICK, Maine — Williams first-year Charles Nevin carded an even-par 72 in the third and final round of the Bowdoin Invitational to climb two spots into the top 10 of the final standings, ending the tournament at 3-over par (219) in a tie for 10th. But the Ephs fell back as a team into a tie for 12th with Bates in the 16-team field at 303-300-307—910 (+46).
New York University won the team title with a 16-over 880, six strokes ahead of Middlebury in second and eight in front of Tufts.
Nevin matched his second-round performance on the 6,601-yard, par-72 course at Brunswick Golf Club with three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars to finish the 18 holes at even par for the second-straight round.
Senior Alex Moller added a pair of birdies to the Williams effort as part of his 5-over 77 while finishing the tournament at 18-over par in a tie for 60th. A pair of sophomores, Owen Barber and Nick Smith, tied for 50th place at 14-over par after carding a 79 (+7) on Sunday, wrapping up the Eph scoring on the day.
Tanmay Chandra of New York University took home medalist honors as he was under par all three rounds to shoot 69-70-70—209 (-7), two strokes ahead of Southern Maine's Will Farschon and four ahead of Trinity's Charlie Mullin. Those three were the only golfers in the field of 88 to finish the tournament under par.
Williams will head to Saratoga Springs, New York, for the Skidmore Invitational in two weeks on Oct. 10-11.
