SCHENECTADY, NY- Thirteenth-ranked Williams
College defeated twenty-fourth ranked Union College in a
non-conference match up to remain unbeaten on the season with a
sparkling 9-0 record. Ephs junior Gabrielle
Woodson continued her sharp shooting, tallying her third
consecutive game-winning goal and fifth goal of the season.
Despite defeating Trinity over the weekend,
Williams' play against the Bantams was not up to par with
their typically consistent execution on the
field. Ephs head coach Michelyne Pinard was glad
to see her team return to their former selves.
“We were able to posess the ball more
effectively today than we were able to this past weekend, “
said Pinard. “The overall pace was hard
though and both teams battled throughout the whole ninety minutes
of play.”
The Ephs were able to strike first in the
first half. With the ball at her feet in the
middle of the field, Brianna Wolfson turned and found her teammate,
Woodson, running ahead of her down the field.
Wolfson spotted Woodson the ball, and after beating her defender,
Woodson was able to chip the ball into the net past the Union
goalkeeper.
Williams' goal merely seven minutes into the
contest was important, as they had trouble finding more offense
later in the game.? Pinard commented, “We were excited to get
on the board in the first half, and we although we had some chances
in the second half we just did not
finish.” Although the Ephs missed some
opportunities in the second period, Williams held on for their
ninth straight victory.
Ephs goalkeeper Lauren Sinnenberg is 7-0 on
the season and has yet to give up a goal this season She has
recorded twenty-seven saves in nine games, including five saves
against the Dutchwomen of Union.
Williams will host Bates on Saturday at 11:00
a.m. and Colby on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
