HARTFORD, CT- Williams junior Gabrielle Woodson scored her second consecutive game winning goal to deal Trinity their first conference loss of the season.  With the 1-0 victory the Ephs extend their winning streak to eight games, and remain undefeated in NESCAC play with a 4-0 record.  Trinity falls to 4-2-2 and 2-1-1 in the conference.

The Ephs entered today's match up ranked thirteenth in the nation, but Williams was  lucky to escape a competitive Bantam squad who retained possession of the ball for a majority of the game.  In the first half neither team scored, but the Ephs were kept on the defensive despite outshooting Trinity by a 6-3 margin.

“Trinity dominated time on the ball throughout the game, “ said Williams head coach Michelyne Pinard.  “They [Trinity] were very organized but our backs kept them in front of us for the most part.  They [Trinity] had too many chances on goal and it just took us a long time to get settled in.”

Six minutes into the second half Alexa Herlach crossed the ball.  With the shot appearing to head directly towards the goal,  Trinity's goalkeeper came out of net and misplayed the cross.  The ball bounced behind her and Woodson capitalized on the mistake and scored for the 1-0 lead.  The goal is Woodson's fourth of the season.

Prior to Woodson's goal, Trinity nearly took the lead just into the second period.  Trinity's Alexa Notte took a shot on goal that sailed out of arm's length from Eph goalkeeper Lauren Sinneberg but nicked the left goalpost.  Sinnenberg finished the afternoon with five saves.

Pinard credits her central midfielders, Alexa Herlach and Kaolin McEvoy, for keeping things going in the second period and finding space that the team had not been seeing before.  Despite slightly improved play in the last forty-five minutes, Williams escaped a close call.

“We're thankful that we got the result we wanted,” commented Pinard.  “We're leaving here today knowing that we need to play better though if we want to continue to win games in the future.”

Williams face their final non-conference opponent this Tuesday at Union at 7:00 p.m. before closing out the season with five conference match ups.
