NEW LONDON, CT- Despite the game being
postponed an hour due to soggy field conditions, women's
soccer (6-0, 3-0) notched another victory without a hitch to open
the season with six consecutive victories.
Connecticut College (3-2, 0-2), hoping to tally their first
conference win of the season, fell to third-ranked team in the
nation by a 2-0 score.
Senior Clare Gallagher and sophomore Tyler
Rainer provided the offense. While the scoreboard was knotted at
0-0 in the first half, the Ephs finally broke through in the second
period. Gallagher hit
a high arching ball from outside the penalty box minutes into the
second half to give the Ephs some much needed
energy. Rainer followed suit, capitalizing off a
lead pass to goal from Sarah Walmsley at the 75:27 mark.
Although the first half was silent from both
ends, Williams dominated time on the ball, outshooting the Camels
by a staggering 26-3 margin. The Ephs played a
season high 10 corner kicks to Connecticut College's
zero. Nine saves from two Camel's
goalkeepers kept the home team in the game for the first half,
before the Williams offense took over.
“Overall it was a tough game, and we had
a tough time finding out way through their numbers behind the
ball,” said Williams' head coach Michelyne Pinard.
“We had a
difficult time figuring that out, but we did it the end which was
great. We are looking
forward to next week's game against Trinity.”
Tomorrow's game versus Colby has been
postponed. Williams
will host Trinity on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Cole Field.
