Box Score
BRUNSWICK, ME. – Top-seeded Bowdoin
dealt the eighth-seeded Ephs an 85-52 loss in the quarterfinals of
the NESCAC tournament to end the women's basketball season.
The Polar Bears built a 17 point first half
advantage before cruising through the second half to advance to the
semifinals next weekend. Williams finishes the
season 8-16, with a 3-6 conference record, while Bowdoin ups their
overall season record to 21-4.
Having lost to the perennial NESCAC powerhouse
just two weeks away by over thirty points, the Ephs faced as much a
mental battle than a physical one. Williams
stayed competitive for the opening ten minutes of
play. Down by only four points at 16-12, with
9:50 left to play in the half, the Ephs were in good range of the
opposition.
Bowdoin finally cracked into a double digit
lead, 31-20, with a pair of Jill Henrikson free throws at the 4:20
mark. They proceeded
to mount a 13-2 run to runaway with the half in the final
minutes. A breakdown
of play on both ends of the floor for the Ephs led to the quick
turnaround for the Polar Bears.
The home team opened the second half with
eight unanswered points, and never looked back.
The Ephs had no answer for Bowdoin's
dominance.
Bowdoin shot a daunting 47.4% from the floor,
overpowering a Williams offense that could muster only a 7-for-27
(25.9%) effort in the second half. The battle on
the boards was no contest either, as Bowdoin out rebounded the Ephs
58-34.
Chessie Jackson and Jill Greenberg led the
Ephs with 13 points apiece, while Mika Peterman added 9
points. Jess Harris
proved to be the only dominant presence under the basket for the
Ephs, with 9 rebounds.
Jill Henrikson notched a game-high 15
points. Teammates
Leah Rubega and Maria Noucas contributed 12 and 11 points,
respectively.
