WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Freshman forward Tanisha Carter sank a twisting lay-up from the baseline with 58.4 seconds left Sunday, snapping a 47-all tie and leading Eastern Connecticut to a 52-49 victory over Williams College in the second game of the Williams Winter Classic.

Eastern improved to 6-3 overall and advances to play Babson (8-2) in the championship game of the Classic Monday at 1 p.m. Williams falls to 8-3 overall and will face RIC (8-2) in consolation game Monday at 5 p.m.

Carter posted a double-double for the victorious Warriors, scoring a team-high 13 points and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. Amanda Pierlioni added nine points for the victors.

First year Jennie Harding scored a game-high 15 points for Williams, who received 10 points off the bench from first year Grace Rhenquist.

The Ephs trailed by seven with 5:32 to go, but rallied to tie the game at 47 after a Taylor Shea lay-up, a Chessie Jackson three-pointer and a offensive putback by Rhenquist.

The Ephs had a chance to take the lead, but Harding was off target on a three-ball. Brittany Whiteley grabbed the rebound for the Warriors, and Carter finished off the trip down the floor with her go-ahead twisting lay-up from underneath the hoop.

Williams had two close-range chances to tie on its next possession, but both shots clanged off the rim. One free throw upped EConn's lead to 50-47, but a Shea jumper cut that lead to one with 15 seconds left.

After Carter missed a shot, Rhenquist drove the baseline with a chance to tie, but her shot came up shot with 2.7 seconds left. Piper Chapman then went to the line and hit both free throws to seal the win for the Warriors.

Chapman and Jessica Moriarty both netted eight points for Eastern, who held Williams to 30 percent shooting from the floor.

The Ephs outrebounded EConn, 46-40, led by Harding's nine boards. Shea finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
