MIDDLEBURY, VT. - Williams women's basketball
(16-4, 5-0 in NESCAC) extended their unbeaten conference streak to
five games in a 75-60 road win over Middlebury this
afternoon. Junior Chessie Jackson led the way for the
Ephs, scoring a game-high 18 points in the contest and grabbing 7
rebounds.
"We played especially great defense in the first," said
Williams' head coach Pat Manning. "While our first half
defense was outstanding, overall we played a solid effort on both
ends of the floor today."
The Ephs kept the Panthers to 24-percent shooting from the floor
in the opening twenty minutes of play, as Williams jumped out to an
early 14-3 lead. Jaris led the early surge, scoring seven of
the Ephs' first fourteen points. She would finish with 16
points on a perfect night of shooting, going 7-of-7 from the field.
The quick lead disappeared, as Middlebury countered with ten
unanswered points to come within one-point of the lead at the half
way point of the first half. Williams responded with a 14-0
run to build the advantage to 31-13 with 5:15 remaining on the
clock. The Ephs headed to the locker room at the break ahead,
36-24.
Middlebury would come within seven points of the lead early in
the second half, before Williams expanded their lead to
double-digits and kept it for the remainder of regulation.
The Ephs led by as many as seventeen points before closing out the
game, 75-60.
Jennie Harding added 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in an
overall effort on the court. Claire Baecher contributed 9
points as well. Jill Greenberg was especially strong at point
for the Ephs, scoring 15 points with 8 assists.
"Jill was outstanding," commented Manning. "She made great
decisions the whole game on both ends of the court, and she was key
today."
Brittany Perfetti scored a team-high 17 points for the Panthers
with 6 rebounds. Kaitlyn Fallon added 12 points.
Williams will return home for the first time since January 16,
hosting Colby and Bates this weekend. Game time on Friday
versus Colby is set for 6:00 p.m. in Chandler
Gymnasium. Next weekend is the Williams women's basketball
annual "Think Pink Weekend". The Ephs will be selling
T-shirts at the front door. All proceeds will go towards the
