Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY. - The Williams women's basketball team (10-3) closed out their non-conference schedule with a solid performance over Skidmore College (7-2), 71-52.  The Ephs will begin Little Three play, hosting Amherst and Wesleyan in the coming week, although the two games do not count towards conference standings.

After shooting 1-for-12 from the floor on Monday against Rhode Island College, junior Chessie Jackson bounced back in a big way in tonight's contest, scoring 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting.  She contributed 7 rebounds and 5 assists as well.

“We stress that if you have an off shooting day you can still do other things on the court,” commented Williams' head coach Pat Manning.  “That's what she did in the Rhode Island game, but it was nice to see her get on track with her shooting tonight.”

The game was closer in the first half than the final score would indicate.  The Ephs led by just seven at the break, 30-23.  A powerful start to the second half propelled Williams ahead of the Thoroughbreds.  The Ephs put together a 12-4 run in the first five minutes to take a 15-point lead.  Jackson's 4-for-4 effort from behind the arc contributed to Williams' offense fire.

“We just played solid defense tonight,” continued Manning.  “We were patient with the ball, and made smart choices with the ball.  Our overall execution was good tonight, and we took smarter shots than we have been taking in previous games.  It's a great win, and a road win, before we start NESCAC play.”

The Ephs kept the Thoroughbreds to 24-percent shooting in the second half, while maintaining a consistent offensive presence throughout the game.  Williams shot around 50-percent from the floor in both periods.

Jill Greenberg was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 9 boards.  Lisa Jaris added 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Elizabeth Hansen came off the bench to score 8 points.

Sharyln Harper led Skidmore with 18 points.  Meghan Gaugler contributed 13 points, while teammate Dana Leonard was a force on the glass with 9 rebounds.

Williams will begin competition against conference opponents on Saturday against Amherst, although the game does not count towards conference standings.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Chandler Gymnasium.
