WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- After 90 minutes of regulation and two
overtimes, the Williams -Tufts battle ended in a 0-0 draw this
afternoon. The tie moves Williams to 8-3-2 on the year and
4-2-2 in the NESCAC; Tufts has a 7-2-3 record on the season and a
5-1-2 record in the league.
The Ephs had some good opportunities in the first half. Annelise
Snyder had a good look at the goal in the 32nd
minute, but Jumbos goalie Kristin Wright saved the shot.
Wright turned away nine shots on the day. Later in the half,
Brett
Eisenhart had a header that went wide. The Ephs had four
other shots in the half.
The second half saw just as much hard work and grit from both
teams. Staying offensive-minded, the Ephs had seven shots in
the half. Senior Julia Schreiber
entered the game in goal after Laura Wann
played the first 45 minutes. Schreiber recorded two saves in
the half which were the only saves of the game for the Eph pair.
Wann and Schreiber have combined their efforts for 44 saves
on the season. After the second 45 minutes, the game remained at
zero all.
In the first overtime, Tufts and Williams each recorded a shot,
but neither was on goal. In the second overtime, Tufts had
one shot, and the Ephs had three, two of which were on goal.
Sara
Wild led the Williams attack on the day: she had eight of
Williams's 17 shots and five of their nine shots on goal.
Wild leads the team with 22 shots on goal this year. Tufts
was led by senior captain Sarah Nolet, who led the team from the
defensive end and had a rocket of a shot in the second half.
Williams plays Middlebury on Friday at 2:00. Regardless of
the outcome, the Ephs will host a NESCAC tournament game on Sunday,
October 31st at 12:30.
