Williamstown, MA - In the home opener Williams defeats MCLA 84-54. Williams improves to 4-0 while MCLA falls to 3-2.
First possession of the game Chessie Jackson hit Jennie Harding on a backdoor cut for two. Followed by a fastbreak layup for Taylor Shea and a three by Chessie Jackson to give the Ephs a 7-0 lead to force an MCLA timeout two minutes into the game.
Jill Greenberg grabbed a rebound and went coast to coast for a two of her own to make the game 11-2, but was quickly responded with a two by Alie Dobrovolc to make it 11-4 with 16:30 remaining. Lisa Jarvis came off the bench and scored a layup to make the lead 19-7. Hillary Perks made a jumper in the lane to cut the lead to 10.
Taylor Shea caught the ball at the elbow and made a strong move to the basket and got fouled. She made both of the foul shots to make the score 23-14 with 10:00 left in the first half. Then Jackson had another three to make it 28-18.
In Danny Rainer's first possession off the bench she sealed her defender and scored to make it 34-18 with 6:15 remaining in the first half. Later Jen Borderud stole the ball in the MCLA backcourt and made a layup to extend the lead to 40-18. Then on the fastbreak Jennie Harding assisted Danny Rainer to extend the lead to 46-20. Hillary Perks had two foul shots to make the score 48-22. The half ended Williams up 48-24.
At the half the Ephs leading scorers were Chessie Jackson with 12, Danny Rainer and Taylor Shea both had 8. Alie Dobrovolc lead MCLA with 9 and Hilary Perks had 8.
Jennie Harding started off the half with a mid-range jumper, then Shea hit a baseline jumper, and Claire Baecher had a layup on a fastbreak giving the Ephs a 6-0 run to start the second half 54-24. Courtney Terzi had a couple of foul shots to make the score 59-27. Then Danielle Scolpino hit a three to making the score 63-33 with 12:30 remaining in the game.
Grace Reinquist hit a trey making the score 69-33. At 9:00 minutes Rainer used an up and under move to get by her defender making the lead 72-40. Maddie King extended the lead to 80-40. MCLA went on a 14-0 making it 80-54. The final score was 84-54.
There were four Ephs in double figures tonight. Jackson had 14 points and 3 assists, Baecher had 11 points and 5 blocks, Shea added 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Rainer had 10 points in only 12 minutes. For MCLA Alie Dobrovoic had 14 points and 8 rebounds, Jen Wehner had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Pat Manning: "Danny Rainer came off the bench and established her presence right away, and she was able to give a consistent performance in both halves. We are going to need that depth from the bench as we get further into the year."
Williams next game is Tuesday November 30th at 7:30 versus Westfield State.
