WATERVILLE, ME. – Williams men's
tennis (7-4, 4-1 NESCAC) concluded their weekend in Maine with
their second win in as many days, defeating Colby (6-6, 3-4),
9-0. After defeating #13 Bowdoin yesterday, the Ephs appear
to be playing their best tennis of the season heading into their
final two weeks of the regular season.
“We are hitting our stride and hitting it at the right
time,” said Williams head coach Dan Greenberg.
“This weekend was great. Colby was a great way to finish a
long and tough weekend on the road.”
While Williams two and three doubles pairs defeated their
opponents swiftly, Dicken Chaplin and Bryan Chow had to put up a
fight from behind to sweep doubles play. Down 7-4 and match
point, the Ephs' recently formed number one pair clawed their
way back into contention and rattled off five straight games to
take the match.
“They came back all the way to win, and that was huge to
set the tone for the day,” commented Greenberg.
Four freshmen started in the Ephs singles lineup this
afternoon. Felix Sun and Bryan Chow gave up just one game
each in their straight set victories at courts one and four,
respectively. Zach Weiss posted an equally solid result at
court five, winning 6-1, 6-1.
First-year Trey Meyer did not give up a single game today in
doubles or singles play, closing out his singles opponent in twelve
straight games. Jeremy Weinberger and Will Petrie played at
courts two and three, and posted straight set wins as well.
The Ephs look to continue their recent success this Wednesday at
Trinity College. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
