ONEONTA, NY -- After a difficult loss
yesterday, Williams women's soccer traveled to Oneonta State
today. Thanks to a late goal, the team walked away with the
1-0 win.
Sophomore keeper Laura Wann got
her second start of the season today. She recorded two saves in a
scoreless first half. Oneonta State had the better of the
offensive action with seven shots on goal to the Ephs' three, but
stellar defending on the part of the Williams team kept the game at
zero all going into halftime. Williams started the attack
early when Brett Eisenhart's
shot went wide left in the second minute of the game. Just under
twenty minutes later, Red Dragons keeper Amy Lusby saved
Eisenhart's second shot of the half. Caitlyn Clark
contributed the final shot of the first half when she unluckily hit
the post with just under five minutes to play. The second
half would bring many more opportunities for the Ephs.
The Ephs started the second half with senior Julia Schreiber
in goal. Once again, they were the first to attack.
Their first of six shots in the half came just over five minutes
in, but it was not until the 72:50 mark that they finally found the
back of the net. On her fourth shot of the game, Eisenhart
scored off of a redirected shot in the box for her fourth goal of
the season. Eisenhart's one goal proved to be enough as the
Ephs (3-1-1) managed to pull out the victory against the Red
Dragons (4-2).
After the game, Coach Michelyne Pinard said, "We played well and
created a lot of opportunities. The team competed hard and
beat a very good Oneonta State team coming off of a tough loss
yesterday. I feel good about the direction we are heading."
The Ephs look for their fourth win of the season against Western
Connecticut State on Wednesday evening at 7:30.
