Ephs Pull Out 1-0 Victory after 2-Hour Delay

DANBURY, CT -- Tonight's game against Western Connecticut State took much longer than the women's soccer team anticipated. After getting about twenty minutes of play in, the teams had to wait two hours for a lightning delay. The wait seemed to have no effect on the Ephs though, as they walked away with the 1-0 victory.  Coach Michelyne Pinard said, "It was clear that we had great energy throughout the delay. [I give] credit to the team for staying focused. It was yet another challenge for us to deal with, and [we] did."  The Ephs, currently ranked number one in New England, moved to 4-1-1 on the year as the Colonials fell to 3-4.

For the second game in a row, Brett Eisenhart was the hero. In the 36th minute, Eisenhart received a pass from Caitlyn Clark and scored from 30 yards out.   The Ephs had eight other shots in the half, but Eisenhart was the only one to convert.  It was her fifth goal of the season.  Said Coach Pinard about the goal: "It was great to get on the board in the first half.  Brett really created that goal out of almost nothing." After the game, Coach Pinard went on to talk about what an important role Eisenhart plays on the team: "Her speed and competitiveness really help us create opportunities out of nothing sometimes.   She is all about team.  She loves to win, and that is contagious!" The rest of the half remained scoreless as Julia Schreiber faced six shots in goal and had two saves.

The second half of the game got underway with sophomore Laura Wann in net.  The second 45 minutes was much less offensive on the part of the Ephs.  They recorded only four shots on goal and had no corner kicks (versus the three that they took in the first half).  Their defense proved enough, however, as Wann recorded three saves, and Eisenhart's first half goal was the only one necessary to win.

In addition to Eisenhart's leading the way on the offensive end, Sara Wild recorded three of Williams' seven shots on goal in today's contest.

The Ephs look to win their first home game of the year and extend their win streak to three games on Saturday against Colby.  The game will begin at 11:00.
