Middletown, CT- After a tough loss to Amherst, Williams is able to recover with a big 70-36 win over Little Three nemesis Wesleyan. With the win Williams improves to 13-1 and Wesleyan falls to 6-6. Williams was lead by Jennie Harding with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Williams' next game will be Friday at Bates at 8 pm.
"I am really pleased with the maturity on the team to recover after a tough loss on Saturday and come back today and get back on track," said Eph head coach Pat Manning.
Williams gained control of the game when they went on a 14-4 run mid-way through the first half which was capped with a steal by Claire Baecher who then finished off the possession with a layup, assisted by Chessie Jackson. Before the run the score was 13-4 with 14:50 left in the half and after the lead was inflated to 27-8 with 6:00 showing on the scoreboard. Wesleyan was not able to recover after this stretch and never came within 11 again.
After Williams' run Wesleyan was able to go on an 8-0 run of their own cutting the lead to 11 with only two minutes left. Yet Williams was able to close the half out strong pushing the lead back to 17, the score at the half showing 33-16.
After a quick start by Wesleyan in the second half narrowing the lead to 33-20, Williams took over and never looked back with the largest lead of the night being 35.
Williams stifling defense was the key to the victory forcing Wesleyan to commit 21 turnovers and shoot only 28.8% from the floor.
Jill Greenberg also had a good game with 10 points and a game high six assists. Claire Baecher and Chessie Jackson also added nine points. Wesleyan was lead by Erin Gold who had 11 points and Eileen Gaffney who tallied seven points and 10 rebounds.
