AMHERST—The #9 Williams Men's Tennis team dropped a devastatingly close 5-4 decision to #4 Amherst Sunday.
Williams held a 2-1 lead after a very strong doubles session. The two and three tandems were victorious for the Ephs. Felix Sun and Trey Meyer won 8-4 at the two spot, and Will Petrie and Kevin Shallcross won 8-6 at the number three position.
Zach Weiss and Bryan Chow picked up two wins for Williams in singles play. Weiss won his first set in a tie break, then lost the third, only to come back and take the deciding set 6-4. Felix Sun, Matt Micheli, and Trey Meyer each won their first sets, but could not finish the job.
"Today was just an amazing match, but the truth is we let them crawl back in and turn the tide on us in a bunch of matches. I feel good about how we were playing but we need to take the match when we have the chance. No one in the NESCAC is going to give you anything," commented head coach Dan Greenberg.
Williams takes on Wesleyan next Saturday on the road. Match time is set for 1:00.
