#1 Middlebury Takes Down #10 Williams

MIDDLEBURY—The #10 Williams Men's Tennis team suffered a defeat Sunday at the hands of #1 Middlebury College.

Williams dropped all three doubles matches, but very nearly squeaked two of them out. The number three team of Will Petrie and Kevin Shallcross lost their pro-set 9-7, and Matt Micheli and Trey Meyer lost 8-6 at number one.

The Ephs looked to recover the momentum at the outset of singles play. Bryan Chow had a solid 6-4, 6-4 win at number five singles to get the Ephs on the board. Williams' second win came from Trey Meyer at number three. Meyer lost the first set 5-7, then won 6-3 and finished the match with a 10-3 super-tiebreak win.

"Middlebury is the top-ranked team and were solid, but the truth

is we gave them that match. We made bad errors at bad times, and let them run

away with momentum. Hopefully this will light our fire for the end of the

season," commented head coach Dan Greenberg.

Williams will resume conference play Wednesday at home against Tufts.
