Box Score
New London, Conn --- A banged-up Ephs squad could not overcome a slow start on the road against the Camels. Eric Doran led the way for Connecticut College with three goals.
The Camels struck quickly, scoring two goals in the opening two minutes of the game as John Lyons and Doran gave Connecticut College a 2-0 lead.
The Ephs did not fair much better after Henry Mills '11 took over for Evan Cohen '12 in goal. Tyler Corcoran and Drew Green netted two more goals in the first quarter, extending the margin 4-0 in favor of the Connecticut College.
The Ephs slow start was highlighted by the face-off battle. Williams only managed to win one out of the five in the opening quarter. As a result, the offense did not see much of the ball, tallying only three shots while the Camels took twelve.
Will Stewart '13 put the Ephs on the scoreboard early in the second quarter, but Doran's second goal of the game kept the lead at four entering the half.
Williams could not get things going in the second half either. The Camels relentlessly attacked the Eph defense, adding three goals in both the third and fourth quarters. Connecticut College's Mike Giambanco and Stephen Eicher netted two second half goals each and Eric Doran completed his hat trick with his third score of the day. Thomas Woessner added the final goal for the Camels.
Eric Kelley '14 found Mike Ryan '12 for the Ephs only score in the half, making the final margin 11-2.
In addition to losing the face-off battle, the Ephs continually struggled to transition from offense to defense, successfully clearing the ball only six times in twenty attempts. Consequently, the Camels outshot Williams 34-18 on the day.
In the first 6:45, Evan Cohen allowed two goals and had one save. Senior Henry Mills played the rest of the game for the Ephs and had six saves while allowing seven goals. John Lenehan took the win for the Camels, recording six saves and giving up one goal in his 55 minutes of play.
With the loss, the Ephs fall to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in NESCAC play. The Camels halted a three game losing streak to climb to 3-6 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.
Coach George McCormack pointed to the slow start as being crucial in the loss. "We didn't get on track early in the game and Conn College came out an executed. It's nothing we can't fix but you have to show up for a mid-week game on the road."
After being constantly hampered by injuries, the Ephs find themselves searching for a spark. McCormack knows, "We have to make a run. It's starts with one game." Fortunately for the Ephs, there is no better opportunity than Saturday against rival Amherst College on Renzie Lamb Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
