MIDDLEBURY, VT--Williams took two of three doubles matches to start the day and split singles play to hang on 5-4 against Middlebury.
Felix Sun and Trey Meyer won 8-3 at #2 doubles, and Will Petrie and Kevin Shallcross earned another victory, 8-6 at #3, to give the Ephs an early lead.
Middlebury #1 Andy Peter's snagged a 6-2, 6-3 win from Sun, but victories by Micheli (6-4, 7-6 (2)) at #2 to maintain the Williams advantage. Bryan Chow at #5 also won 6-3 6-2.
But Panther wins at #3 by Alex Parower over Meyer and at #6 by Brantner Jones over Dylan Page ensured that the match would come down to its final match.
At #4, Williams' Zach Weiss dropped the first set in a tiebreak before cruising 6-2, 6-3 to win the deciding individual match in three sets.
Williams, the three seed, upsets the Panthers to avenge an earlier 7-2 loss at the hands of Middlebury. In this case, the win sets up another matchup with #1 seed Amherst. The Lord Jeffs prevailed in the matchup earlier this season between the two teams in a 5-4 nailbiter.
