Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – In an out of conference matchup, Williams (1-0 NESCAC, 7-0) took on Skidmore College (1-4) to grab their seventh victory in as many games. With 19 points from Kellie MacDonald and 16 from Oge Uwanaka, the Ephs made a second half push to end the game at 55-34 in their favor.
Although Skidmore would be first on the scoreboard, it would take just under seven minutes for either team to gain a lead greater than two points. Williams would finally grab a four point lead at the 13:19 mark with a layup from Oge Uwanaka to bring the score to 10-4. Eph sophomore Katie Litman would contribute four of those points in those first seven minutes. Skidmore battled back with a three-pointer by Molly McLaughlin, but Williams would quickly grab a 15-9 lead with a jumpshot by Uwanaka.
By the 7:33 mark, Skidmore had inched back within two points of Williams, despite a three minute span of scoreless play for both teams. Litman would put in another layup to give the Ephs a wider lead, but that would be the last point scored for the next three minutes. Although Skidmore would be the first to break this trend, bringing the score to 17-15 with a layup by Migle Vilunaite, Williams would dominate the last three minutes of the half. The Ephs would have the last say of the half, as Uwanaka made a layup to bring the score to 24-17 in the away team's favor.
In the second half, Williams ran away with the lead after three minutes of tight play. Said Coach Pat Manning, "This game was a defensive battle on both ends. I was really pleased with our improved shot selection in the second half, it's tough to get shots to fall against such an athletic defense as Skidmore had." With a free throw by Ellen Cook at the 16:15 mark, the Ephs took a double digit lead, bringing the score to 32-22. With strong shooting from the floor, Williams extended their lead to 19 points before Skidmore could respond with composed shooting from the foul line. Kellie MacDonald would score her 17th point of the game to bring the score to 47-28 in the Ephs' favor. Two scoreless minutes ended in a layup by Skidmore's Ella Scheuerell, but two more scoreless minutes would insue after layups from Uwanaka and MacDonald.
With less than three minutes left to play, Skidmore didn't stop fighting to recover their 19 point deficit. They came back to score a layup and jumpshot, but Williams countered with layups by Uwanaka to have the final say in the game. The clock ran out with the score at 55-34 in Williams' favor.
