Box Score NEW LONDON, CONN. – The Ephs battled to defeat Connecticut College 10-9 in double overtime to extend their winning streak to five games.
In Williams' (5-0/ NESCAC 3-0) first road game of the season the Ephs emerged victorious after a hard fought battle.
The Ephs got off to a strong start in the first quarter; Steve Kiesel scored the first goal of the game at 13:38. Then at 7:19 Michael Fahey netted another goal to pull ahead 2-0. Connecticut (0-5/ NESCAC 0-2) went on a two-goal run to tie the game up before the end of the quarter with goals from Briggs Barton and Tucker Mscisz.
The first goal of the second quarter was another Steve Kiesel goal at 12:27 to get the Ephs back up to a one-goal lead. Another two-goal run by Connecticut with goals by Barton and Mscisz again turned the momentum and gave Connecticut the lead and it marked the first time this season the Ephs had trailed. Kiesel scored his third goal of the game at 5:59 to even up the score but Ross Thompson scored one for Connecticut at 4:06 to give Connecticut a 5-4 lead which they carried into halftime.
The second half was a tightly played one in a similar suit to the first half. Williams tied the score up at the end of the third quarter at 7-7 with goals from Tanner MacIvor, Steve Kiesel, and Jack Lauroesch.
Riley Hoffman scored a goal after the opening face-off in the fourth quarter to give the Ephs the lead but Davis Kraft scored shortly after to match the goal. Connecticut scored another off of a great shot from the top of the box by Briggs Barton to take the lead with four minutes left in the game. With just 53 seconds left Bryson Gilbert-Bono scored his first goal of the game for Williams to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime period neither team was able to score. Williams had a great opportunity with 2:36 left but Bobby Bleistein made a terrific save for Connecticut to extend the game into another overtime period.
In the second overtime period Williams' Ryan Hamilton caused a turnover to get the ball for the Ephs, which led to a game-winning goal by Bryson Gilbert-Bono to win the game 10-9.
Steve Kiesel led Williams in scoring and Briggs Barton led Connecticut, each with four goals. Bryson Gilbert-Bono was also a key player for Williams as he scored two goals: the goal to send the game overtime and the game-winning goal.
Williams' goalie Dan Whittam played 67:33 and allowed nine goals while saving fourteen shots.
Connecticut goalie Bobby Bleistein played 58:06 and allowed eight goals while saving seven shots. Goalie Connor Poetzinger played 9:27 and allowed two goals while saving one shot.
The next game for the Ehps is March 21st at 1:00 P.M. when they will play Bates at home.
