Ephs lose 15-9 at Bowdoin

Brunswick, Maine - The Ephs lose 15-9 on the road against Bowdoin.

A five-goal run in the third quarter by Bowdoin (1-1/ NESCAC 1- was too much for Williams (1-2/ NESCAC 1-1) to overcome.

The first goal of the game this afternoon came on a fast break by Riley Hoffman after 4:47 of play. On the following play, Bowdoin won the faceoff and scored in transition to match that goal. The next goal was another for Williams by Thomas Fowler who lost his defender and punched the ball into the net. The following four minutes were a back in fourth where possession changed frequently and neither team was able to score. At 5:10 Brett Kujala scored for Union to tie the game up again. For the remainder of the quarter neither team was able to score and so the second quarter began with the score tied 2-2.

In the second quarter Bowdoin was able to take a lead which they maintained for the rest of the game. The first goal was on the first possession of the quarter for union. By 9:38, Union had gone on a three-goal run and was ahead 5-2. Williams wasn't able to get their first goal of the quarter until 3:40, when Conor Roddy fired one in. In the last minutes of the quarter Union had a quick burst scoring a goal on a man up play and then winning the faceoff and scoring again on the following play to take a four goal lead going into the half.

Peter Crane scored early in the first half for Williams to reduce the lead to three, but then Bowdoin went on a three-goal run to pull further ahead. At 4:38 Conor Roddy scored again for Williams to stop the Bowdoin run. Union then went on another three goal run. Following the third Union goal, Williams won the faceoff and scored a goal in transition just before the quarters end to start the fourth quarter down 13-6.

In the fourth quarter Williams was unable to overcome the lead by Bowdoin. The Ephs outscored Bowdoin 3-2 in the fourth quarter to end the game 15-9.

Conor Roddy, who had three goals and two assists, led Williams. Matthew Crowell led Bowdoin with three goals and three assists.

Williams' goalie Miles McCarthy played 60:00 and had nine saves while allowing fifteen goals.

Bowdoin's goalie Peter Mumford played 60:00 and had thirteen saves while allowing nine goals.

The next game for the Ephs is Saturday, March 29, when they will have their first home game of the season against Connecticut College at 1:00 P.M.
