Ephs defeat Trinity 16-15 in their first game of the season

Hartford, Conn. – The Ephs defeated Trinity 16-15 in the first game of the season.

Williams (1-0/ NESCAC 1/0) has now defeated Trinity (0-1/ NESCAC 0-1) in it's last four matchups.

The first half started off with a run from Trinity College. Ryan DeSimone scored two goals for the Bantams, driving from behind the net each time. Williams responded with a four-goal run, with goals from Bryson Gilbert-Bono, Chris Mclaughlin, Conor Roddy, and Peter Crane.

The second quarter followed in a similar fashion to the first quarter. Trinity College went on a two-goal run, starting with a goal by Seth Bird off of a rebound. Then Ben Knaus scored another on a fast break after a Williams turnover to tie the game up.

This time Williams responded with a five-goal run. The first came after Conor Roddy drove and made his man lose his footing and then passed it to an open Thomas Fowler on the crease who was able to put the ball in the net to end the run.

Trinity won the following face-off and got the ball to Ryan DeSimone who tried to attack from behind the crease as he had done in the first quarter but he was contained by Ryan Hamilton who forced a turnover and Thomas Fowler scored again for the Ephs on the following possession. Williams scored the next three goals with two from Michael Fahey and one from Chris McLaughlin to complete a five-goal run to end the half ahead 9-4.

In the third quarter Trinity fought hard to get back into the game. Trinity scored the first goal of the second half on the first possession of the half, with a laser shot from the wing by Ryan DeSimone. Trinity then won the following two face-offs and scored on each possession to cut the Williams lead to two goals.

Williams won the following face-off to get possession for the first time of the half at 12:16; Williams had a long possession with two dangerous shots from Bryson Gilbert-Bono that failed to find the back of the net, but eventually Michael Fahey was able to score for the Ephs.. Trinity then went on a two-goal run to bring the Ephs lead down to just one. As Trinity attempted to extend their run to three goals, the Bantams won a face-off and raced down on a fast break but their fast break was stopped by a great check from Ryan Hamilton to take the ball away, and start a fast break for Williams that led to a goal for Riley Hoffman. Trinity then finished the quarter with a three-goal run to go into the fourth quarter with the game tied for the first time since 6:04 in the first quarter.

Ryan DeSimone scored the first goal early in the quarter for Trinity to maintain the Bantams' momentum. The Bantams followed it up with another on a fast break. The momentum was broken when a Williams man-up play led to a goal for Conor Roddy with an assist from Michael Fahey. On the next goal, Roddy passed it to Fahey for the score on another man-up play to tie the game up.

Williams then broke the tie when Riley Hoffman forced a turnover and carried the ball on a fast break to find Thomas Fowler for a go ahead goal. Jack Sharrio matched the goal for Trinity on a drive from the left wing.

Then once again, Williams broke the tie with a goal from Michael Fahey with fifty seconds left in the game. Trinity won the face off and made dangerous attempts to tie the game up but eventually Williams defender Ryan Hamilton defended Ryan DeSimone into a tough shot and Miles McCarthy made a big save for Williams to get possession and end the game with a 16-15 win.

Williams' head coach George McCormack said of the game, "I thought we were very resilient, and when they made their run we were able to battle back in, and late in game we were able to execute both on offense and on defense."

The Ephs were led by by Thomas Fowler and Michael Fahey, who each had four goals. Conor Roddy also had three goals and three assists.

Williams' goalie Miles McCarthy played 60:00 and had sixteen saves and allowed fifteen goals.

Trinity's goalie Henry Coote played 60:00 and had 14 saves and allowed sixteen goals.

Trinity was lead by Ryan DeSimone who had seven goals.

The next game for the Ephs is Tuesday, March 9 at 6:00 P.M when they will play at Union College.
