WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Williams won its second and final dual match of the Fall season on Wednesday, once again sweeping doubles on their way to an 8-1 victory over Springfield College. The Ephs finish 2-0 in dual matches before two tournaments round out the season.
"Springfield brought a great competitive spirit," commented Head Coach Dan Greenberg, "So I'm glad our guys were focused and patient when finishing points."
Alex Taylor '20 and Brian Grodecki '18 got things started with an 8-1 win in first doubles. Christian O'Connor '19 and Rohan Shastri '17 followed suit with an 8-2 win before Alexandre Gueganic '19 and Sachin Raghavan '18 completed the doubles sweep by a score of 8-4.
This is the second time Williams has started the day 3-0 in doubles after Greenberg stressed consistency in doubles play was a goal for improvement coming into the year.
Singles went 5-1 overall. Grodecki, Taylor and Raghavan continued their successful days with wins in straight sets. Taylor managed to sweep his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Ananth Raghavan '20 similarly did not sacrifice a game with a 6-0, 6-0 win, and Benjamin Lebowitz '20 gained his first official Williams win 6-0, 6-1. The only victory on the day for Springfield came when junior Alex Romaine outlasted Rohan Shastri 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
This concludes the dual match portion of the Fall season. "We now have a little more match experience before ITAs next weekend," said coach Greenberg.
ITA Regionals will begin on September 30th and continue throughout the weekend. Beginning on October 14th, Williams will compete at a tournament hosted by MIT.
Springfield went 1-1 in dual matches this season, and will reunite with Williams at the ITAs on September 30th.
