Men's Track and Field Finishes Last Meet Before Championships Begin

Boston, MA – On the eve of championship season, the Williams men's track and field sent a handful of athletes out to Boston University to compete at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Teams from all over the east coast gathered to run on the fast track and the Ephs walked away having left it all out there.

The Ephs kicked off the running events in the 800m. Kevin LaFleche '20 was the fastest finisher for the Ephs, impressively winning his heat against a field of Division I underclassmen. LaFleche finished in 1:55.00. Steven Yannacone '17 was the next fastest finisher, running 1:55.25 in a different heat. In yet another heat, Alex Cowen '18 ran in a hotly contested race and came through the line in 1:55.78. The remaining finishers were Luke Hinz '17 (1:57.46), Robert Delfeld '20 (2:00.41), and Jacob Nadelman '19 (2:01.15).

In the 400m, the Ephs entered three athletes. Elliot Fong '19 led the way with his 50.50 second heat-winning performance. Dysron Marshall '20 and Justin LeAndre '18 both ran a personal best today, running 51.25 and 51.94 seconds respectively.

Nick Gannon '20 was the fastest Eph in the 1000m. He hung in with a field of fast Division I competition and ran a team-leading time of 2:30.92. Peter Kirgis '20 ran a similar race in a different heat and finished in 2:31.17. Lucas Estrada '19 (2:34.38) and Benjamin Hearon '20 (2:37.41) rounded out the 1000m performances.

Finally, the last running event the Ephs contested was the mile. Captain David Folsom '17 narrowly hit his personal best in his breakout race of the season, running 4:16.52. Isaac Goodman '20 and Kenneth Marshall '20 crushed their season best times in running 4:26.77 and 4:29.03, respectively. The Ephs' miles were finished up by Walker Knauss '19 (4:29.27), Eli Cytrynbaum '20 (4:40.52), and Jenks Hehmeyer '20 (4:41.86).

Christian Holway '19 competed in the long jump for Williams. He almost matched his indoor personal best, leaping for 6.48m on his final jump of the day.

Next week, the Ephs will kick off championship season at the Division III New England Championship hosted by Tufts University.
