BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Williams Men's Track and Field team had two point-earning performances among a number of strong efforts at the NCAA Division III National Championship meet in Birmingham this weekend.
On Friday, first-year Ulysses Junker kicked off the competition for the Ephs in the long jump. On his first jump of the competition, Junker set a mark of 7.01 meters, and while he got close on several later jumps, the first one held up and earned him sixth place in his first appearance at nationals.Â
The other points that Williams earned at NCAAs came in the final event of the day on Friday, when the distance medley crew of TJ Zwall, Bryce Cooper, Zachary Liu-Walter and Keiyu Mamiya ran a 9:47.56, good for sixth place in a stacked field. The final competitor for Williams at NCAAs was junior Vincent VanMaaren in the pole vault, hitting a mark of 4.83 meters and finishing 18th overall.
The team finished with a total of six points, three from the long jump and three from the DMR, tying the team for 25th overall. The Ephs will take a short break and begin the outdoor season in early April.Â
