Williams Earns Second Straight Sweep

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Williams Men's Tennis team started their trip to California very well, with a 9-0 win over Point Loma Nazarene University on Monday. The team has won 18 of 18 individual matches in the spring season, as they swept Hamilton in their only other match of the spring season. They are now 4-0 overall.

The Ephs had a relatively easy time in doubles. Alex Taylor '20 and Brian Grodecki '18 started the day with an 8-2 win, followed by a similarly strong showing by Jordan Sadowsky '18 and Rohan Shastri '17. First year Benjamin Lebowitz and junior Sachin Raghavan finished the doubles portion of the match with an 8-2 victory.

However, the Sea Lions of Point Loma put up much more of a fight in singles. Shastri, Raghavan and Taylor all dropped a set and had to win super-tiebreakers to earn their victories. Similarly, Grodecki and Sadowsky had to battle to win each of their two sets. The only overpowering victory came at the hands of sophomore Deepak Indrakanti, who won 6-1, 6-2.

"To come out 9-0 with very close matches is a good sign of our toughness and ability," said head coach Dan Greenberg. "That said, we have the whole season ahead of us and we need to keep raising our daily level."

After a fantastic beginning to spring break, the Ephs will next travel to Claremont, CA to play the Chapman University Panthers (1-8). That match will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21 at 10:00 AM PDT, and 1:00 PM EDT.
