CLAREMONT, CA – On Tuesday the Williams Men's Tennis team played the Chapman Panthers. It marked the second match of the team's spring break, and for the third straight match, they won 9 matches out of 9. The team is now 3-0 in the spring season, and 5-0 for the year.
The team earned commanding victories in all of its doubles matches. Alex Taylor '20 and Brian Grodecki '18 started the day off with an 8-4 victory over Charlie Werman and Josh Sarsfield. This performance was followed by equally strong victories by Jordan Sadowsky '18 and Rohan Shastri '17, who won 8-3, and by Benjamin Lebowitz '20 and Sachin Raghavan '18, who earned an 8-2 victory.
The Ephs used the doubles wins to boost their play in singles, in which they did not drop a set. Shastri, Grodecki, Raghavan, Taylor and Sadowsky seamlessly moved from doubles into singles, overcoming their opponents from Chapman. In addition, sophomore Deepak Indrakanti added a 6-3, 6-1 victory to finish off the sweep.
Dan Greenberg, the head coach of the team, said that a change of strategy may have accounted for their success in the match. "We wanted to play more offensively today, which caused a few more errors, but overall everyone did what they needed to win."
The Ephs will look to carry their momentum to their next match, taking place tomorrow, March 22 against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The match will be held at 4:00 PM PDT/7:00 PM EDT.
