Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO – A scoreless second quarter by Williams fueled the Colorado College Tigers (7-3) to a 14-13 win over the visiting Ephs (4-3) this afternoon on Washburn Field on the campus of Colorado College.
The Ephs took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter, but Colorado College scored the only three goals of the second quarter and the host Tigers took a 6-4 lead into the halftime break. A second quarter unassisted goal at 6:24 by the Tigers' Austin Davie gave Colorado College a 5-4 lead and the Tigers never relinquished that lead despite a furious comeback attempt in the fourth quarter by the Ephs that saw them score five consecutive goals.
Williams scored four of the first five goals in the game, but Colorado closed the 3-goal deficit to just one goal at the end of the first quarter at 4-3. Four consecutive scores through the end of the first quarter and through the second quarter put Colorado up 6-4 at the half.
Aaron Maslow of Colorado College netted the first goal of the third quarter, and the sixth straight by the Tigers to open up a 7-4 lead when he scored unassisted at 13:27.
A goal off a laser from straight on by Brendan Hoffman at 9:52 narrowed the Colorado College lead to two at 7-5. John Hincks was credited with an assist on the Hoffman goal. Just 39 seconds later the Ephs cut their deficit to one when Kevin Stump converted off a feed from Michael Fahey.
However, the Tigers came right back to answer that goal when Patrick Woo won the face off and fed Will Baird for a goal at 9:01. The Tigers quickly re-established a two-goal lead at 8-6.
At 4:11 off a Colorado turnover the Ephs' Michael Fahey found John Hincks running down the middle of the attack zone. Fahey's perfect pass was turned into a goal by Hincks who quickly flipped the ball into the net. The Colorado lead was down to one at 8-7.
With one minute left in the third quarter Brad Hale converted with a high shot from 12 yards out off a feed from Austin Davie and the Tigers went back up by two, 9-7.
With 52 seconds remaining in the quarter Colorado called timeout to organize one last scoring opportunity for the Tigers in the quarter. The Tigers executed well as they created the goal with just 11 seconds left in the quarter to take a 10-7 lead. The goal came from Tyler Borko from 10 yards out to George Peele's left and Aaron Maslow assisted on the goal.
Colorado College went up four goals when Tom Haller found Tyler Borko and Borko again scored from the left side just 39 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Robbie Stern's second goal of the fourth quarter at 12:40 gave the Tigers a 13-7 lead. Stern's second tally was the Tigers' fifth straight goal after the Ephs had cut the Colorado lead to one at 8-7.
Williams rallied and scored the next five goals in the game. The Ephs' Kevin Stump converted off a set up by Michael Fahey and the Ephs were now down 13-8 with 10:08 remaining.
Michael Fahey scored off a feed from Ben Fox at 9:31 to bring them within four at 13-9. Kevin Stump quickly brought the Ephs within 3, 13-10, with an unassisted goal at 9:10.
The Ephs notched a fourth consecutive goal when Michael Fahey circled the goal from Harlow's right side and beat Harlow with an unassisted tally to make the score 13-11 in favor of Colorado College.
Chris McLaughlin got Williams to with in one goal, 13-12, when he scored an unassisted goal at 7:34, giving the Ephs five straight goals in just over two and a half minutes.
Colorado College's Austin Davie stopped the Ephs' momentum when he scored an unassisted goal at 5:16 and Colorado owned a two-goal lead at 14-12.
With 1:15 left Kevin Stump scored off a Fahey pass and the Ephs were down one 14-13 with a key face off coming up.
The Tigers won the faceoff with 1:09 remaining. Williams pressed and forced a turnover and Thomas Fowler got a shot on goal but Tiger goalie Andrew Harwood saved the shot and the Tigers were able to successfully run out the clock to claim the 14-13 win.
Robbie Stern led the Colorado attack with 4 goals and Tyler Borko added three goals and two assists. The Ephs were led by Kevin Stump who scored 4 goals. John Hincks added three goals and two assists.
Eph goalie Goerge Peele made 14 saves while the Tigers' Andrew Harwood recorded 9 saves.
Colorado colelcted 32 ground balls to 26 for the EPhs. The Tigers won 19 of 31 face offs and they out shot Williams 59-44. Williams turned the ball over 18 ties and Colorado had 16 turnovers.
"We started strong and then had a lapse in the middle of the game," noted Eph head coach George McCormack. "I was very proud of how strong we finished the game."
The Ephs return to action tomorrow at Colorado College, where they will play Carthage College (Kenosha, Wisconsin) at 1:00 p.m. MST.
ohColorado College will next play on April 1 when they host Carthage College.
