Men's Track and Field Kicks Off All New Englands At Home

Live Results

Williamstown, MA – Some of the best athletes in all of New England gathered at our very own Lee Track to kick off the All New Englands Track and Field Championships this afternoon. Day one started on a high note of a beautiful 63 degree and partly cloudy day, and the Ephs put on some outstanding displays of athleticism to get things going.

At the end of day one, Rhode Island lead all teams with 49 points. Williams currently has 20 points.

Ian Mook '18 started things off for the Ephs will back to back performances in the javelin and the 400m hurdles. First in the jav, Mook came out of the gates strong and threw for his day-best mark of 47.10m. Not long after, Mook ran a gutsy 400m hurdle prelim against a fast field and finished in 56.94 seconds.

The 5000m featured two phenomenal performances by sophomores Mitch Morris and Austin Anderson. In the first heat, Morris went out in the middle of the front pack and ran a very even first 4 kilometers before picking off runners and surging to the front with 600m to go. He held off a late charge and captured the win in 14:51.62. This also crushes his previous personal best of 15:10.45. In the second heat, Anderson started from the back and worked his way up through multiple packs of runners before decisively running away from a pack of runners battling for 3rd. His time of 14:30.05 sits at 22nd on the DIII nationals list.

The Ephs wrapped up for the day behind a stellar 10000m put on by Ben Decker '18, Noah Williams '17, and Zachary Dulabon '18. Decker and Williams stayed in the front pack throughout the race and worked well together; Dulabon was there for the first half of the race and then toughed out a solo effort. Decker and Williams together led almost wire to wire for the first 27 minutes, and then the lead pack started shuffling around. Williams kept himself within striking distance of the leader and then made a race-deciding move to the front on the bell lap. Not known amongst his teammates for his finishing speed, Williams had everyone cheering ecstatically as he charged away from 2nd place and commandingly took the win in 31:00.85. Decker pushed hard through the finish and took 5th in 31:10.81. Dulabon rounded out a solid 10k performance by the Ephs in a 32:20.10 finish.

Day two of competition will resume tomorrow morning at 10am in the decathlon.
