Women's Soccer Beats Bowdoin 2-1

Box Score
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Williams College junior forward Sarah Scire scored an early goal in each half to lead Williams (11-0-2/ NESCAC 7-0-1) past Bowdoin (5-6-2/ NESCAC 1-6-1) 2-1. Scire has now scored three goals this season.

Coming off a game yesterday against Wesleyan in which she nearly scored twice, Sarah Scire got her due against Bowdoin.

"She could have had two goals yesterday," said Eph head Coach Michelyne Pinard. "She's just playing with great intensity and fire. It's almost like the karma police were saying sorry for yesterday. She's certainly creating a lot for us."

Not only with fire, but with skill. In the 47th minute, Scire dribbled up from midfield and saw an opportunity to score. With parabolic precision, she blistered a shot from outside the penalty area, which flew cleanly into the left corner of the net. The score gave the Ephs needed conviction, and they prevailed 2-1 over their NESCAC foe.

The Ephs scored first in the 8th minute. Williams pressed forward along the left side, where  Ilana Albert sent a sharp pass to Liz Girvan, who cut behind her defender near the backline. She struck a cross left to right across the goal box, hampering Bowdoin's defense. Sarah Scire came crashing in from the left side and shot the ball into the left corner of the net.

With only seconds left in the first half, Bowdoin converted off a Williams foul. Sophia Lemmer sent the ball into the goal box, which initially deflected off a Williams defender. But Bowdoin's Beth Brown got a nice touch on the ball, sending it across to Aine Lawlor, who snuck the ball into the left corner past a diving Olivia Barnhill '19.

Bowdoin had a chance to equalize in the 68th minute. Beth Brown got a pass around her defender to connect with forward Julia Adelmann who got a shot off near the goal box. Her shot was blocked and flew into the air, but Olivia Barnhill jumped and nudged the ball to left so that it went just wide.

Bowdoin had the advantage in shots on goal (17-13) and corner kicks (4-3).

Eph goalie Olivia Barnhill played 90 minutes, had four saves, and allowed one goal. Bowdoin net minder Penny Rocchio played 90 minutes, had six saves, and allowed two goals.

The Ephs return to action next week on October 20th to play at Tufts.
