Ephs Fall to Hamilton 1-0

Clinton, NY.—In a midweek away matchup, the Ephs (6-5-2/NESCAC 2-4-2) battled against the Hamilton Continentals (7-6-1/NESCAC 3-6-0), losing the game 1-0. In the 64th minute, the Continentals scored the only goal of the contest. Hamilton winger Luke Peplowski put in a cross towards the top of the Ephs 6-yard box. The ball found Charles Hawthorn who headed the ball past the reach of Eph keeper Ben Diffley and into the net.

In the 10th minute, Hamilton's Charles Hawthorn broke free from the Ephs backline. Eamon Gara Grady did a terrific job to track back and made a strong, clean challenge to knock the ball out for a corner.

Throughout the first half, the Ephs enforced a high press and pinned the Continentals in their own half.

In the 29th minute, Nick Ranieri stood over the ball on a 24-yard free kick. He curled the shot over the wall, but over the crossbar as well.

In the 38th minute, Nick Ranieri sent in a left-foot delivery from the center of the field into the Continental's 18-yard box. Nick Boardman met the cross but sent the header into the hands of goalkeeper Thomas Benson.

In the 41st minute, Pandelis Margaronis ripped a shot off a free kick. The ball sailed towards the top right corner, but Ben Diffley made a crucial save to tip the ball over the crossbar.

With 6 minutes left in the match. Hawthorn beat the last Eph defender to the ball and dribbled towards goal on a breakway. Ben Diffley rushed off his line to make the save.

Ben Diffley finished the game with 2 saves and Thomas Benson ended with 4 saves.

"Looking at the full 90 minutes, it was good to see that the guys never gave up and fought until the very end," said head coach Steffen Siebert. "It just shows the fight and mentality this team has."

Coming up for the Ephs is an away game against Bates on Saturday at 1:30PM.
