THE EPHS END THEIR SEASON WITH A LOSS TO MIDDLEBURY

Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Middlebury College (11-3-1/ 6-3-1 NESCAC) scored 2 goals to edge out a victory over Williams College (6-8-1/ 2-7-1 NESCAC)

The deciding goal came in the 62nd minute from senior Eliza Robinson. Robinson booted a corner that beautifully curved into the top right corner. The shot killed the Ephs' momentum and today was another example of a close loss for the Ephs.

The first few minutes of the game started with aggressive play from Williams. In the 1st minute, a cross from senior Mikayla Kappes led to a shot for junior Liz Girvan that just missed over the bar. It took Middlebury five minutes to get the ball over midfield due to the Ephs' high pressure. In the 9th minute, Tori Huang nutmegged a Middlebury defender, but no Eph could work with the ball to create a scoring opportunity.

Eventually, Middlebury took control of the first half and found the back of the net. In the 25th minute, a bouncing ball slipped through Eph goalkeeper Chelsea Taylor's hands. Middlebury senior Gretchen McGrath capitalized and scored a wide-open shot into the empty net.

In the 2nd half, Williams showed promise and tied up the game. In the 56th minute, exceptional ball movement led to the final point of senior Victoria Laino's Williams career. The goal was also the final assist of Aspen Pierson's Williams tenure. Liz Girvan's shot in the 59th minute was the last notable shot opportunity for the Ephs, but it sailed just over the goal.

The Ephs have had a long season and failed to make the playoffs this year. Eph coach Sarah Raymond had this to say about her first year as coach: "I couldn't be prouder of the fight and spirit that we showed in every moment all the way to the end. Today was a great performance from our team, and the goals just didn't fall for us even though we created so many good chances. We feel really good about what the future holds, these young players have learned so much from our senior class in terms of passion and competing to win and I know that lesson is going to serve them well as we move forward. We've got a good nucleus of young players who experienced a lot of minutes this year and that is going to be great for us as we look ahead."

This Williams team has great potential and looks to have more success next season. Williams ends the season with a 6-8-1 record in overall play and 2-7-1 in the NESCAC conference.
