MIDDLETOWN, CONN -- Williams Men's Tennis kicked off their 2021 season with an 8-1 victory over Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Ephs lost at number one doubles, but won at two and three to take a 2-1 lead into the singles matches.

Wesleyan's lone doubles win came at number one where the Eph tandem of
Calvin Chung and
Arturo Kam fell 8-5 to Noah Lilienthal and Ben Mitchell. Williams' second doubles team of
Austin Barr and
Chase Cohen posted an 8-2 win over Wesleyan's Marcus Sweeney and Zach Lieb, while the Eph number three doubles pairing of
Noah Reich and
Karan Amin followed with an 8-5 win to close out the doubles matches and give Williams a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.Â

The Ephs swept the singles matches winning all six in straight sets beginning with a 6-2, 6-0 win from
Arturo Kam at #1over Noah Lilienthal, 6-2, 6-0.
Chase Cohen at #4 overcame Marcus Sweeney 6-4, 6-2. #6
Karan Amin defeated Clay Gaieski 6-3, 6-0, while
Noah Reich at #5 claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Harry Portnoy. #2
Austin Barr defeated Zach Lieb, 6-4, 6-2 and #3
Calvin Chung downed Ben Mitchell 7-5, 6-2.

In an exciting start to the season, Eph head coach
Dan Greenberg noted, "It was a great experience to be back on the court competing and it was a great match for us."Â He went on to add, "We didn't really know what to expect, having not played a match since 2019, but all the training seemed to come through on each court, so we're excited to keep building."
