Williamstown, MA.— The Ephs (2-1-1/0-1-1 NESCAC) faced off against the Wesleyan Cardinals (1-2-1/0-2-1 NESCAC) which ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Both sides were able to bag a goal in the second half. However, both defenses refused to surrender the game-winning goal and the match ended in a tie.
The Ephs put pressure on Wesleyan's defense in the 2nd minute of play as Will Felitto put a delivery into the box. Jamie Holland flicked the ball towards the goal frame forcing Wesleyan's goalkeeper Liam Devanny to make the save.
Both back lines dealt well with penetrating balls in behind in the first half and neither squad was able to gain the upper hand.
The match favored the Ephs in the second half after Wesleyan's Oliver Clarke received a red card after committing a second yellow card offense, leaving the Cardinals down a player.
In the 57th minute, Wesleyan drew a penalty and Dane Harmaty placed the ball past Ephs' keeper Michael Davis.
At 67:58, the Ephs brought the game level off a cross from midfielder Nick Boardman. Boardman drove a cross into the box which was brought down by Dylan Kelemen. Kelemen opened up his hips and laid the ball off to fellow first-year Daniel Zhang, who tucked the ball into the back of the net from 5 yards out.
This play marked Kelemen's first assist and Zhang's first goal as Ephs.
In the 85th minute, Wesleyan midfielder Zach Wheeler put in a cross from the right side and Michael Davis lunged out from his goal to punch the ball firmly out of the box.
With the match still tied 1-1 after 90 minutes, the game moved into overtime.
Williams had a strong opportunity in the 1st minute of overtime as Nathan Song ripped a 23 yard shot off a free kick, forcing Devanny to make the save.
The Ephs maintained the majority of the possession in both halves of overtime, but Wesleyan stood firm to see out the tie.
Michael Davis recorded 4 saves in the contest, playing all 110 minutes.
"Very proud of the performance from the guys on and off the ball. However, I'm especially proud of the reaction after going down against a great team," said Ephs' head coach Steffen Siebert. "That reaction really shows the amazing team spirit in the group where everyone is willing to step up for the guy next to him."
Williams continue their campaign on Sunday against Babson at 2 p.m. as they fight to remain undefeated at Cole Field.
