WILLIAMS FALLS TO TRINITY 2-1

Box Score HARTFORD, CT – In an aggressive matchup, Trinity College Bantams (6-2-6, NESCAC 4-1-4) held their lead over Williams College Ephs (9-3-2, NESCAC 6-2-1) for the 2-1 win. Both teams are ranked nationally, as of Oct. 18th the Bantams were sitting 23rd and Williams 10th.

The first goal from Trinity came in the 20th minute of the first half. A Bantam penalty kick hit the left post, deflecting back to Trinity off Williams senior goalie Leyla Kamshad, and was struck into the top left corner. Trinity scored again in the 48th minute; Kamshad dove onto a Trinity corner kick, but the ball slid out and was kicked in by the surrounding Trinity offense. The Ephs stayed in the game, answering back with a goal of their own in the 62nd. Junior Jaquelin Nordhoff jumped on the ball after the goalie saved Nordhoff's free kick attempt, centering the ball beautifully to senior Brianna Binder who shot it past Trinity goalie Mariana Cournoyer with one touch.

This game began with aggression from both sides, sophomore Meredith Tutun sending a shot two minutes in that just clipped the top goal post. Trinity offense took fewer total shots than Williams (8 total, 5 on goal vs 14 total, 9 on goal), but kept them coming continuously throughout the 90 minutes. In minute 16, good footwork by Trinity led to a shot on goal that again deflected off the top post, Kamshad saving it to stop the play.

The Ephs saw many opportunities from free kicks and corners, but the Bantam defense stayed hot on their tail and was quick to clear the ball from the Williams' attack. First year Brianna Wright played a solid game and had a clean left footed shot in the 40th that Cournoyer dove on to save.

Trinity defense disrupted many potential Williams shots as the clock wound down and managed to keep the Ephs from evening out the score. Coach Raymond commented after the game, "Really proud of the heart we showed to come back from 2 goals down, both goals with referee involvement. We need to do better getting off the bus and competing from the start of the game. We have given away too many minutes in our last two games on the road. The good news is we have a chance to do that on Tuesday against Middlebury. Once we settled into our game, we created some great opportunities and the next step for us it to finish some of those."

Williams returns to play on Tuesday, October 25th, for their final regular season game against NESCAC opponent Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT.
