Ephs Start off Strong at BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener

Boston, MA – On Saturday, December 3, the Men's Track and Field team traveled to Boston, to compete in the 2021 Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. The Ephs opened the 2022-23 indoor season strong, with solid marks put up against Division I and professional competition. The Ephs hope to continue this success throughout the indoor season. 

In the sprinting events, the Ephs had strong performances all around. In the 60m dash, Fletcher Hoven '26 ran a time of 7.18s for the first meet of his college career, placing 11th. In the 60m hurdles, Jackson Anderson '24 represented the Ephs. He placed 2nd with a new personal record and school record time of 8.08s. Hoven also competed in the 200m dash, along with Cooper Desmond '24 and Joseph Kouame-Waldman '26. Hoven placed 6th with a time of 22.65s. Desmond finished in a time of 23.99s, and Waldman ran a time of 24.17s for the first meet of his college career. Adam Roupas '23 and Jack Davis '24 competed alongside Waldman in the 400m. Roupas placed 9th with a time of 50.90s. Davis and Waldman finished in times of 51.37s and 56.48s respectively.  

The Ephs also competed in the 600m, 800m, and mile. In the 600m dash, Zachary Liu-Walter '26 placed 11th in the first meet of his college career, running a time of 1:23.03. Freshman duo Michael Keyes '26 and Leo Cooper '26 competed in the 800m. Cooper placed 8th, with a time of 1:58.92 and Keyes placed 11th finishing in 2:04.63. This was the first meet of both of their college careers. In the 1 mile run, freshmen Rick Yanashita '26 and Luke Zaunck '26 competed alongside junior Jinwoo Kang '24. This was Kang's first time competing in the mile at Williams, and he placed 12th with a time of 4:16.79. Yanashita placed 14th finishing in 4:21.97, and Zanuck ran a time of 8:42.54. 

Nate Lentz '24 and Jacob Lehmann Duke '24 competed in the 3000m run. This was Lentz's first time competing in the 3000m at Williams, and he finished with a time of 8:26.34. Lehmann Duke ran a new personal record time of 8:42.54. In the 5000m run, Chuckie Namion '25, Nikhil DeNatale '26, John Lucey '24, and Elias Lindgren '23 competed. Lindgren ran a new personal record time and school record time of 14:00.54. Lucey and Namiot also ran new personal record times of 14:21.78 and 14:32.18 respectively. DeNatale finished closed behind with a time of 14:33.29 for the first meet of his college career. 

The 4x400m relay was run by Jack Davis '24, Adam Roupas '23, Zachary Liu-Walter '26, and Jackson Davis '25. The Ephs finished 5th with a time of 3:22. 

In the field events, the Ephs had solid marks in all categories. Andrew Williams '24 and Jackson Anderson '24 competed in the high jump, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Williams jumped 1.90m and Anderson jumped 1.85m. In the triple jump, Jeremy Bertolet '24 competed and placed first with a jump of 13.81m. Sam Riley '23, Aidan Casey '25, and Cole Whitten '26 competed in the pole vault. Riley and Casey secured first and second place respectively. Riley had a new personal record and school record jump of 4.81m, and Casey tied his PR off of a short approach, jumping 4.40m. Whitten placed 7th with a vault of 3.95m for the first meet of his college career. Freshman Nick Canora '26 was the lone Eph in the throws. Canora placed 9th in the shot put with a throw of 13.40m and 8th in the weight throw with 13.46m, giving him a strong start to his college career. 

The Ephs now have a little over a month to recharge for their next meet. On January 14th, 2023, the Ephs will travel to Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT to compete against Amherst and Wesleyan for the Little 3 Championship. The Ephs are looking to bring the momentum from this meet into the rest of their season.
