Box Score MANCHESTER, VT – Williams College (1-1) scored 2 goals in the first half to beat Castleton University (1-3) 2-0 or their first win of the season.
The Ephs started strong with a corner kick in the first minute by junior
Jaquelin Nordhoff, quickly followed by senior
Emma Lynch sending the ball past the Spartan goalie at 1:35. With an early lead, Williams offense stayed in control with a total of 7 shots in the first 30 minutes. Junior
Sam Phan scored off a penalty kick at 31:20, bringing Williams to 2-0.

Meredith Tutun created an opening for a shot by
Emma Lynch that was blocked by the Castleton defense. Williams defense kept the Spartans to 3 shots on goal, all well handled by first year goalkeeper
Margaret Huelin.

Parker Harnett played the ball well to keep it in bounds in the 56th minute, allowing an Ephs offensive drive that ended with the Spartan goalie cutting off a strong pass by
Emma Lynch. In the 77
th, first year
Brianna Wright jumped on the ball after a deflection off a Castleton defender, sending a solid shot that Castleton goalie Alex Benfatti dove far to the right to save.
Williams continued their momentum, ending the game with 20 total shots, 11 on goal. A strong showing from the Ephs in their first game in the College Cup, they will face Claremont Mudd Scripps tomorrow at 1:00pm.
