Box Score Beverly, MA - Aiming to snap their three-game losing streak, Williams College (11-6) traveled to face Endicott College (9-10) and got back on track with a 3-0 win against the Gulls.
Williams dominated the third set nearly wire to wire, as an early 4-1 lead quickly turned into a 9-4 advantage behind kills from four different Ephs. The Gulls would never again be within four points of the Ephs, and senior
Caroline Tosolini started a late surge for Williams with back to back well-timed kills. The third set was clinched 25-14 with an ace from junior
Sidra Wohlwend.
The first set featured several lead changes between the Ephs and Gulls, as Endicott got out to an early 9-5 lead before senior
Celia Adams contributed a kill and an ace in quick succession. Williams tied the score at 9-9 after consecutive kills from first year
Keely Campuzano. The set was later tied again at 14-14, but the Ephs took the lead with a powerful kill from
Celia Adams and never relinquished it, securing the first set 25-20.
Celia Adams led the way for the Ephs with eight kills in the opening set, although fellow senior
Marit Hoyem was not far behind with five kills of her own.Â
The second set was close early on, as the Gulls established a 7-6 lead. The Ephs, however, quickly applied the pressure to Endicott, proceeding on a 12-4 run to establish a dominant lead. Although the Gulls pulled back to within six points at 20-14, the Ephs closed out the set 25-14 with consecutive aces from senior
Lauren Kauppila capping off a successful set for Williams.
Endicott leaders were: sophomore Julia Giroux with 7 kills, junior Savannah Campbell with 9 assists, and junior Emma Ruel with 8 digs. Williams leaders were:
Celia Adams with 15 kills,
Lauren Kauppila and first year
Morgan Daetz with 18 assists each, and
Sidra Wohlwend with 10 digs.
Commenting after the match, Eph head coach
Christi Kelsey said, "This was a huge bounce back win for us! Our team had some great reflections from last night and made an awesome adjustment in how we wanted to compete today. We executed really well and stayed focused from point to point across all three sets. Really proud of our entire team for how we stepped up today and looking forward to our NE Challenge weekend back at home!"
The Ephs will return home to host the New England Challenge, with their first match coming against MIT on Friday, October 20th at 7:00 PM EST in Lasell Gymnasium.
