Williams Men's Track and Field Breaks DIII New England Record in 4x400m Relay at BU David Hemery Valentine Invite

Boston, MA -- The Ephs Men's Track and Field Team traveled to two different meets this weekend, some traveling on Friday, February 11th, and others on Saturday, February 12th. The track events competed at Boston University in the David Hemery Valentine Invite among DI and professional athletes and the field events competed at the MIT Gordon Kelley Invite. 

The David Hemery Valentine Invite began on Friday with the Distance Medley Relay. The relay team consisted of Jinwoo Kang '24 in the 1200m, Adam Roupas '23 in the 400m, Zachary Liu-Walter '26 in the 800m, and Nate Lentz '24 in the 1600m. They placed 12th running a time of 9:54.54, also making #4 all-time at Williams. Saturday began with the 5000m run, in which Jacob Lehmann-Duke '24 and Grant Gattuso '23 competed. Lehmann-Duke ran a new personal record time of 14:53.91 with Gattuso close behind running 14:57.15. This was followed by the 800m in which Kang competed and ran a time of 1:53.64. 

The day continued with the 400m, 200m, and 1000m. In the 400m, Ethan Cooper '23 and Nolan Holley '23 competed. Cooper ran a time of 50.28s and Holley ran a new personal record time of 53.21s. Cooper Desmond '24 was the lone Eph competitor in the 200m and ran an indoor personal record time of 23.49s. Zachary Liu-Walter '26, Leo Cooper '26, and Oliver Hall '23 ran the 1000m. Liu-Walter ran a new personal record time of 2:30.66, Cooper ran a time of 2:32.27 for his college debut of the event, and Hall ran a new personal record time of 2:34.84. 

Following with the mile, 3000m, and 5000m races, Lentz, Luke Tichi '24, and Rick Yanashita '26 competed in the mile. Lentz ran a new personal record time of 4:08.41, making #3 all-time at Williams. Tichi ran a new personal record time of 4:22.43, and Yanashita followed close behind with a time of 4:25.49. Simon Kissam '23 was the lone Eph competitor in the 3000m and ran a new personal record time of 8:24.07. In the 5000m, John Lucey '24, Charles Namiot '25, Nikhil DeNatale '26, Elias Lindgren '23, and Will Spollen '23 competed. Lindgren finished in a time of 14:04.19. Following Lindgren was Namiot with a new personal record time of 14:28.59, moving up to number 7 all-time at Williams. Close behind was Spollen with a new personal record time of 14:30.73, making number 9 all-time at Williams. DeNatale and Lucey followed, with times of 14:34.06 and 14:35.57 respectively.

The 4x400m relay team consisted of Jack Davis '24, Oscar Newman '25, Jackson Davis '25, and Bryce Cooper '26. The team ran a time of 3:13.81, breaking the NESCAC and DIII New England records and running the 14th fastest time in DIII history. This averages to a time of 48.45s per 400m split. 

The MIT Gordon Kelley Invite took place on Saturday, and started off with the pole vault. Sam Riley '23  placed 1st, clearing 4.60m on his first attempt. Aidan Casey '25 placed 3rd, clearing 4.60m on his third attempt for a new personal record jump making #5 all-time at Williams. Jeremy Bertolet '24 competed in the long jump and triple jump, and placed 4th in long jump with a jump of 6.32m and 2nd in triple jump with a jump of 13.13m. 

Trent Hall '23 competed in the 60m and finished in a time of 7.36s to place 10th. Jacob Cohen '24 competed in the 60m hurdles and 200m, placing 3rd in the hurdles with a time of 8.88s and 3rd in the 200m with a time of 23.88s. 

The Ephs have kept up the momentum from the start of the season, and intend to continue it through the championship portion of the season. Next Saturday, some Ephs will travel to Springfield College to compete, followed by the DIII New England Championships the next weekend on February 24-25th.
