Springfield, MA -- Williams Track & Field brought a small roster of athletes to Springfield College this Saturday to compete in the Springfield Triangle Classic.
Jacob Cohen '24 was the only Eph in the 60m dash and the 60m hurdles. In the former, he finished 7th with a time of 7.22 seconds. In the latter, he placed 4th with a time of 8.67 seconds, just 0.01 seconds off of a lifetime best and qualifying him for the Division III New England Championships next weekend. Cohen also competed in the 200m dash, this time joined by his teammate
Nolan Holley '23. The duo ran 24.64 and 25.25 seconds, respectively. Holley also ran the 400m dash as the sole representative from Williams in that event.
In the mile,
Victor Cazabal '25, Russel Blakey '23, and
Rwick Sarkar '23 ran solid times, placing 6th, 10th, and 13th. There was a much deeper showing in the 3000 meter run, with 6 runners from Williams competing in the 25-man field.
Grant Gattuso '23,
Jacob Lehmann Duke '24, Chris Ratcliffe '24,
Pat Theveny '24,
Bradley St. Laurent '26,
Luke Zanuck '26, and
Reed Putnam '23 all raced, with Gattuso taking 2nd in 8:44.10 and Lehmann Duke not far behind in 4th with 8:46.26.
Jackson Hartigan '23 finished out the longest indoor running event, the 5000 meters. He performed well, especially considering this is his first race since the cross country season.
The true highlight of the meet came from the field events, though -- specifically the pole vault.
Sam Riley '23 broke his own school record, previously 4.82 meters (15'9.75") with a massive personal best of 5.01 meters (16'5.25"). This mark places him tied for 7th overall across all of Division III, almost certainly qualifying him for the National Championship in Birmingham, AL in a few weeks.
Before that meet, however, Riley and the rest of the Ephs will face off in the Division III New England Championships next weekend in Boston, MA.
