Box Score Waterville, ME – In an ever-important NESCAC matchup, the Williams College Ephs (2-1, 2-0) hit the road to face the Colby College Mules (1-2, 0-2). The Ephs offense bounced back after a tough Union game to fire home 7 goals in the third quarter, downing the Mules 15-8.
There is no surprise that this topsy-turvy game began with a hard-fought first quarter. The Ephs would open the scoring off the stick of
Jesse Shapiro; immediately Colby would answer with a goal of their own. Each team would take a lead in the remainder of the quarter with Cal Caputo and
Spencer Goodbar drawing goals for the Ephs, but ultimately the period would end 3-3.
The second quarter produced much of the same, with each team scoring twice.
Ian Di Pietro would score off a pass from
Owen Roegge to tie the game at 4. With just 52 seconds remaining in the half,
Finlay MacKnight would bury his third of the year to send the teams into the locker room tied at 5-5.
The Ephs would finally take control in the third quarter, registering 10 shots in the frame. Caputo would open the scoring off a feed from MacKnight before Colby would re-tie the game at 6.
Cade Schuckman and
Jesse Shapiro would then score 26 seconds apart to give the Ephs some breathing room. After another quick goal from the Mules, the Ephs would open the floodgates. In the final four minutes of the quarter, Williams would find the back of the net four times with goals from
Pearse Glavin,
Cade Schuckman, and two from Shapiro.
The Ephs would not stop there as
Bjorn Davidson would score his first of the year to keep the momentum rolling.
Jesse Shapiro would add two more to bring his tally to six on the day and fifteen for the Ephs as a team.
Matthew Freitas would be called upon to halt any Mules comeback, making four of his twelve saves in the final quarter to ensure a 15-8 Ephs victory.
Coach McCormack commented on the win today saying this: "It was a nice bounce-back win on the road today.
Jesse Shapiro really stepped up today with his goal production and
Ian Kim had a solid day on face-offs for us."
The Ephs will host Bowdoin College at home next Saturday at 1PM.
