Medford, MA — Williams men's tennis dropped their first match of the season this afternoon as they were bested 7-2. The Ephs fell behind early dropping all three doubles points and were not able to mount a comeback during the singles play.
The Ephs held serve well at the 1 and 3 spots, but ended losing by a break in each pro-set. Senior Karan Amin and sophomore Shawn Berdia were defeated 8-2 at the 2 spot.
In singles, senior Chase Cohen and junior Matt Kandel came away with victories. Cohen dropped his first set but ran away with match winning the final two sets 6-2, 6-3. Kandel traded holds throughout his first set and was dialed in during the tiebreaker winning 7-0. Kandel continued to roll in the second set, building a comfortable lead. The junior closed out the match, winning the second set 6-2. First years Jason Shuler and Simon Volkema and sophomores Berdia and Andrew Chong were defeated in straight sets in their respective singles matches.
The Ephs will now travel to California for their annual spring break trip where they will take on the likes of Point Loma, Chapman University, Pomona-Pitzer, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and Westmont College.
