GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Ephmen had a strong showing this morning, setting themselves up well for tonight.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Nick Whitcomb, Ev Nichol, Oliver Schalet, and Zeb Hart placed 10th with a time of 1:21.45, a few tenths faster than this morning. Whitcomb had a strong start, splitting 20.99, followed by Nichol's 20.01, the fastest split of the 4. Schalet split 20.24 and Hart closed in 20.21.
In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Oliver Schalet placed 8th, after an excellent swim and new best time of 1:38.06 this morning qualified him for his second NCAA A final. In the B final, junior Alex Atherton continued his outstanding meet, placing 15th with a 1:39.04, over a second faster than his previous best time.
In 1M diving, senior Kobe Tray had a slew of very clean dives to place 5th, moving up 2 places from this morning. His twisters were especially impressive, as always.
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Nick Whitcomb, Jacob Grover, Ev Nichol, and Oliver Schalet had an excellent race to place 4th with a time of 3:13.60, moving up 1 spot from this morning. Whitcomb started the race off strong with a quick 48.05 backstroke split. Grover put down a lightning fast breaststroke leg, going his fastest relay split ever at 52.70. Nichol had a solid butterfly split, going 48.27, and Schalet, in his 6th swim of the day, brought the relay home in a quick 44.58.
After a great night of swimming and diving, the Ephmen jump to 5th in the team standings. Competition continues tomorrow at 10am with the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 800 freestyle relay.
