COMPLETE RESULTS
SAN DIEGO, CA – The track and field team traveled to San Diego for spring break to compete in the 15th Annual Point Loma Nazarene University Track and Field Invitational on March 25, 2023. After a strong finish at the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships, the Ephs continued to momentum to open up the outdoor season.
Starting with the field events, Jackson Anderson '24 competed in the javelin throw and placed 4th, throwing a new PR of 43.94m (144'3"). In the long jump, Aidan Casey '25 competed for the first time ever in the event. He placed 13th, jumping 5.83m (19'1.5"). Casey also competed in the pole vault along with Sam Riley '23 and Cole Whitten '26. Riley placed 1st jumping 4.49m (14'8.75"). In 3rd was Casey with a jump of 4.19m (13'9") and in 8th was Whitten jumping a college PR of 4.04m (13'3").
The running events commenced with the 1500m, in which 6 Ephs competed: Rick Yanashita '26, Luke Zanuck '26, Bradley St. Laurent '26, Victor Cazabal '25, Rwick Sarkar '23, and Russel Blakey '23. For Yanashita and Zanuck, this was their first time competing in the event. Yanashita finished in 8th with a time of 4:05.46 and Zanuck finished in 11th with a time of 4:09.31. St. Laurent was close behind with a college PR of 4:12.87, followed by Cazabal with a time of 4:14.85. Sarkar finished in 4:42.21 and Blakey in 4:44.44.
Some shorter distance events followed, starting with the 110m hurdles in which Anderson and Jacob Cohen '24 competed. Anderson extended his previous school record of 14.53s by running a time of 14.26s to place 1st. This also broke the NESCAC record held for 22 years by Eph head coach Ethan Barron. Cohen finished in a time of 16.24s. Next was the 400m which was run by Jackson Davis '25 and Nolan Holley '23. Davis placed 2nd with a PR of 48.95s, and Holley finished in 53.95s.
In the 100m, Anderson also placed 1st and set a new school record with a time of 10.57s breaking the old record of 10.65s set by Katakie Ofori-Atta in 2016. Also in the 100m were Jack Davis '24, Oscar Newman '25, Will Murray '25, and Ethan Cooper '23. Davis placed 3rd with a PR of 10.75s to make #6 all-time at Williams. Close behind in 7th was Newman with a time of 10.89s to make #10 all-time at Williams for his first time running the event. Murray and Cooper finished in times of 11.38s and 11.42s respectively.
Nate Lentz '24, Jinwoo Kang '24, Zachary Liu-Walter '26, and Oliver Hall '23 competed in the 800m. Lentz and Kang secured 1st and 2nd place with times of 1:52.93 and 1:52.95 respectively, with Lentz running a PR. Liu-Walter placed 7th with a time of 1:55.35 and Hall finished in 1:59.88. Following this was the 400m hurdles, which was run by Bryce Cooper '26, Adam Roupas '23, and Jacob Cohen '24. Cooper placed 4th with a time of 55.54s for his first time running the event, and Roupas was close behind in 5th with a time of 55.98s. Cohen finished in 10th running 61.11s.
In the 200m, Oscar Newman, Jack Davis, Brandom Hashemi '23, and Nolan Holley competed. Both Newman and Davis broke the 22-second barrier to make top 10 all-time at Williams. Newman ran a PR of 21.63s to place 2nd and Davis ran a PR of 21.87s to place 3rd, making #6 and #8 all-time at Williams respectively. Hashemi ran a time of 23.94s for his first time competing in the event, and Holley ran a PR of 24.44s.
The 5000m was run by Chris Ratcliffe '24, Luke Tichi '24, Patrick Theveny '24, and Reed Putnam '23. Ratcliffe and Tichi took 1st and 2nd with times of 15:00.67 and 15:05.18 respectively, with this being the first time Tichi has run the event in college. Theveny placed 5th running a time of 15:20.01, and Putnam finished in 17:22.88.
The meet closed with the 4x400m relay in which Williams had two teams running. The first team was Jackson Anderson, Adam Roupas, Jack Davis, and Bryce Cooper and the second team was Nate Lentz, Jinwoo Kang, Oliver Hall, and Brandon Hashemi. The first team placed 1st with a time of 3:19.55 and the second team placed 5th with a time of 3:27.88.
The Ephs men opened their outdoor season strong, with a NESCAC record, new school records, several all-time top 10 performances, and many personal bests. The outdoor season will continue on Saturday, April 8th, at Springfield College for their 2nd meet of the season.
