Riley Breaks School Record at Carla Coffey Invitational

RESULTS

NORTHAMPTON, MA -- The Ephs traveled to Smith College this weekend to compete in the Carla Coffey Invitational. Aidan Casey '25 and Sam Riley '23 competed in the pole vault on Friday. Casey cleared 4.30 meters (14' 1.25") to secure 3rd place. Riley won the event, clearing 4.81 meters (15' 9.25"). This broke the 21-year-old Eph record of 4.80 meters set by Malcolm Perry in 2002. After Riley's record-setting indoor season, this performance is likely the first of many records to come.

Jackson Anderson '24 also competed in Day 1 of the two-day decathlon, consisting of the 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put (where he set a personal best), high jump, and the 400 meter dash.

The rest of the events took place on Saturday, with the 200 meter dash being the shortest event the Ephs competed. Jackson Davis '24 and Bryce Cooper '26 finished second and third, clocking 22.15 seconds and 22.23 seconds, respectively. Cooper Desmond '24 and Nolan Holley '23 finished not far behind in later heats. In the 400 meter dash, Jackson Davis and Bryce Cooper continued their dominant performance, finishing first and third in 49.20 seconds and 49.68 seconds. Just as in the 200 meter dash, their teammates Cooper Desmond and Nolan Holley finished close behind, with Desmond setting a new personal best of 53.01 seconds.

On the middle-distance side of the team, Oliver Hall '23 finished the 800 meter run in 1:59.15 and Luke Tichi '24 placed second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:00.49. Also competing in the 1500 meter run was Victor Cazabal '25, Reed Putnam '23, Rwick Sarkar '23, and Russel Blakey '23.

On the long-distance side, Jacob Lehmann Duke '24 and Chirs Ratcliffe '24 placed third and fourth with times of 15:04.48 and 15:05.22, followed by their teammates Luke Zanuck '26 and Bradley St. Laurent '25, and Grant Gattuso '23.

Williams also did well in the field events. At the long jump, Will Murray '25 and Jeremy Bertolet '24 leapt 6.40 meters (21') and 6.36 meters (20' 10.5"), respectively. Joseph Kouame-Waldman '26 also competed in this event for the first time ever, jumping 5.60 meters (18' 4.5"). Bertolet would come back later to place third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.92 meters (42' 4.75").

At the throws, Nick Canora '26 placed 5th in the shot put with a toss of 13.26 meters (43' 6"). He came back later to throw discus, where he posted a mark of 35.19 meters (115' 5"). He was also joined by his teammate Brandon Hashemi '23, who threw 28.45 meters (93' 4").

Anderson returned on Day 2 to finish the decathlon. He competed in  110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and the 1500 meter run. In the final event, he ran a personal best time of 4:34.17, leaving him with a cumulative score of 6686, another personal best.

The Ephs will compete this following weekend at their home track in the Farley Invitational.
