Williamstown, MA – Ephs men's tennis moved on to the NESCAC semifinals after a 5-0 win over Amherst this afternoon. The Ephs raced to a 3-0 lead after doubles. At the 1 spot, first year duo
Jason Shuler and
Nicholas Chen played some scintillating tennis in their 8-4 victory. At the 2 spot, junior
Matt Kandel and senior
Karan Amin broke late in the match, setting up Kandel to serve out the match. At the 3 spot, sophomore
Shawn Berdia and first year
Simon Volkema jumped out to a 6-1 lead and kept the pressure on their Amherst opposition, winning 8-5. Shuler and Berdia secured singles victories to earn the Ephs a spot in the semifinals. Shuler and Berdia faced the same opponents only less than a week ago and used their experience from the prior match to claim straight-set wins.
The Ephs will now face Bowdoin tomorrow at 1 PM with the Ephs getting the better of the Polar Bears in their regular season matchup in Brunswick, Maine on April 15.
