Ephs Place 2nd at NESCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

New London, CT – The Ephs men's track and field team traveled to New London, CT on Friday, April 28, 2023, to compete in the NESCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The weather was cold, rainy, and windy, but the Ephs stepped it up and performed strongly in all areas, allowing them to place 2nd overall in the meet.

Due to the weather, the pole vault was moved to Friday evening in which Aidan Casey '25 was the only Eph competitor. He placed 2nd, jumping a new outdoor PR of 4.45m (14'7.25") to make #10 all-time at Williams. 

Saturday began with the 10,000m on the track, which was run by Elias Lindgren '23, Charles Namiot '25, Will Spollen '23, and Jacob Lehmann-Duke '24. Lindgren and Namiot went 1st and 2nd, with Lindgren running 30:55.72 and Namiot running 31:01.55. In 5th was Spollen with a time of 31:29.47, and Lehmann-Duke finished in 32:36.16. This was followed by the 3000m steeple chase, in which Nikhil DeNatale '26 placed 1st with a time of 9:20.34. 

Next was the 4x100m relay, which was run in the order of Jack Davis '24, Oscar Newman '25, Bryce Cooper '26, and Jackson Anderson '24. The team ran a new meet record time of 41.47s to place 1st and make #4 all-time at Williams. Jinwoo Kang '24, Nate Lentz '24, and Luke Tichi '24 ran the 1500m, and Kang placed 1st with a time of 3:56.45. Close behind was Lentz who placed 3rd with a time of 3:57.21, and Tichi who ran a time of 4:02.70.

Jacob Cohen '24 and Jackson Anderson competed in the 110mH. Cohen ran a time of 16.63s, and Anderson placed 1st with a time of 14.94s. This was followed by the 400m run by Oscar Newman, Jackson Davis '25, and Nolan Holley '23. Newman placed 2nd with a PR time of 48.26s to make #10 all-time at Williams, and Davis placed 3rd with a PR time of 48.88s. Holley ran a time of 54.43s. Next, in the 100m, Jack Davis and Jackson Anderson placed 5th and 6th respectively, with times of 11.13s and 11.18s. 

Jinwoo Kang and Nate Lentz ran the 800m along with Zachary Liu-Walter '26. Kang placed 4th with a time of 1:56.28 and Liu-Walter placed 8th with a time of 1:58.03. Close behind was Lentz who finished in 1:58.82. In the 400mH, Bryce Cooper and Jacob Cohen competed, with Cooper placing 6th with a time of 56.13 and Cohen finishing with a time of 1:01.99. 

In the 200m, Jack Davis ran a time of 22.33s to place 8th, and Brandon Hashemi '23 ran a time of 23.87s. Elias Lindgren, John Lucey '24, Simon Kissam '23, and Christopher Ratcliffe '24 ran the 5000m. Lindgren broke his own meet record from last year, placing 1st with a time of 14:16.79. Lucey and Kissam placed 5th and 6th respectively, with times of 14:35.65 and 14:37.49. Ratcliffe finished with a time of 14:56.48. 

The running events closed with the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. The 4x400m relay was run in the order of Jack Davis, Nolan Holley, Jinwoo Kang, and Bryce Cooper and they placed 6th with a time of 3:24.02. The 4x800m relay was run in the order of Oliver Hall '23, Leo Cooper '26, Rick Yanashita '26, and Victor Cazabal '25, and they finished with a time of 8:14.73.

On the field, the meet started with the hammer throw and long jump. In the hammer throw, Nick Canora threw 40.74m  (133'8"). In the long jump, Jackson Anderson placed 9th with a jump of 6.35m (20'10"). Jeremy Bertolet '24 finished with a jump of 5.99m (19'8") and William Murray '25 jumped 5.64m (18'6"). Nick Canora also competed in the shotput and discus. In the shotput, he finished with a throw of 12.58m (41'3.25") and in the discus he finished with a PR throw of 37.50m (123'). Jeremy Bertolet also competed in the triple jump and placed 9th with a jump of 12.77m (41'10.75").

The Ephs rose to the occasion in this meet, with solid performances in all areas despite the weather conditions. They hope to bring this effort with them next weekend, as they compete in the DIII New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Thursday, May 4th to Friday, May 6th in Springfield, MA.
