Amherst, MA – The Ephs Men's track and field team traveled to Amherst College on April 8, 2023, to compete against many DIII New England Schools in the Amherst College Spring Fling meet. The Ephs performed well all around, placing first in several events.
The meet commenced with Jacob Cohen '24 in the 110m hurdles, in which he placed 9th with a time of 16.28s. Following that was the 1500m, in which the top 5 Ephs were Simon Kissam '23, John Lucey '24, Luke Tichi '24, Chuckie Namiot '25, and Zachary Liu-Walter '26. Kissam placed 4th with a time of 3:58.77, breaking his old PR by 9 seconds. Lucey finished with a time of 4:00.51, and close behind was Tichi with a new PR time of 4:01.58, breaking his old PR by 11 seconds. Next was Namiot with a time of 4:02.64 to break his PR by 10 seconds, and following closely was Liu-Walter with a time of 4:02.94 for his first time competing in the event in college.
Oscar Newman '25, Jackson Davis '25, and Brandon Hashemi '23 competed in the 200m. Newman placed 1st running 21.78s, being the only person to break 22s in the meet. Davis was close behind, placing 3rd with a time of 22.16s, and Hashemi finished in 24.04s. The 400m was run by Jack Davis '24, Nolan Holley '23, and Cooper Desmond '24. Davis placed 2nd running a new PR time of 50.61s. Holley finished with a time of 53.50s, and Desmond ran a new college PR time of 54.66s.
Cohen returned from the 110m hurdles to run the 400m hurdles along with Adam Roupas '23 and Bryce Cooper '26. Roupas and Cooper tied, both running times of 56.60s, but Roupas placed 4th and Cooper placed 5th. Cohen finished in a time of 61.10s. The 800m was run by Jinwoo Kang '24, Nate Lentz '24, and Oliver Hall '23. Kang secured 3rd place running a time of 1:53.24, and Lentz placed 9th with a time of 1:57.04. Hall finished with a time of 2:00.99.
The relays consisted of the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. The 4x100 was run by Cohen, followed by Jack Davis, then Bryce Cooper, and finished off by Newman. They placed 1st by just 0.01 seconds running a time of 42.14s, with Newman catching multiple runners in the final leg. This time makes number 10 all-time at Williams. The 4x400 was run by Jack Davis, Roupas, Liu-Walter, and Jackson Davis, and this team also placed 1st with a time of 3:21.94.
On the field, Sam Riley '23 placed 1st in the pole vault with a jump of 4.60m (15'1"), and Cole Whitten '26 placed 3rd with a college PR jump of 4.15m (13'7.25"). Aidan Casey '25 competed in the long jump and placed 10th with a jump of 5.74m (18'10"). Jeremy Bertolet '24 placed 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 13.47m (44'2.5"). Nick Canora '26 competed in both the hammer throw and shot put. He placed 8th in the hammer with a throw of 40.47m (132'9") for his first time competing in the event in college and placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 12.93m (42'5.25").
The Ephs will continue competing on Friday, April 14th, and Saturday, April, 15th with a select group of middle and long-distance runners traveling to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA on Friday to compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic, and the rest of the team traveling to Smith College in Northampton, MA on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Carla Coffey Invitational and Multi. Following that, the Ephs will compete on their home field in the Farley Invitational on April 22nd.
