Ephs Out of NCAA Tournament Following 16-10 Loss to Babson

Box Score Rochester, NY – In a rematch from the early season 11-10 Williams' win, the Williams College Ephs faced off against the Babson College Beavers in the Second Round of the NCAA tournament. On either side of halftime, Babson would go on a four goal run which helped them to solidify their spot in the next round as the Ephs fell 16-10.

Babson would jump out to an early lead as they would bury four goals in the opening ten minutes of the contest. Jesse Shapiro would provide the Ephs with a goal in between this rally but Williams had work to do down 4-1. With just forty-seven seconds left in the quarter, Calvin Caputo would find Nick Bates to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Ephs would manage more shots on goal than the Beavers in the opening quarter, however, Babson proved to be slightly more efficient.

The game exploded in the second quarter as the teams combined for nine goals and twenty-five shots in the fifteen minute frame. Williams would tie the game early on after Ryan Johnson and Nick Bates scored just forty seconds apart. Babson would respond shortly after, but the Ephs fired back fifteen seconds later with a Pearse Glavin goal. The action wouldn't stop there, but unfortunately for the Ephs it all seemed to be going Babson's way. The Beavers would score four unanswered goals to take a 9-5 lead before Glavin would end the run right before half.

Down 9-6 heading into the second half, the work was cut out for the Ephs. Babson would open the scoring to extend the lead back to four, but just seven seconds later Calvin Caputo would answer. The goals finally stopped pouring in midway through the third as both teams battled hard for the all-important next tally. The Beavers would be the beneficiaries of a severe momentum swing as they buried three in the remaining four minutes to go up 13-7.

In need of at least six fourth quarter goals, Williams needed a tidy offensive display. Nick Bates would complete his hat trick early in the frame, but Babson was quick to shut the door. The Ephs then went back-to-back with Calvin Caputo and Tucker Catlin finding the net to make it 14-10. The Beavers would squash the rally with two of their own as they wound down the clock for the 16-10 victory.

The Ephs are now out of the NCAA tournament, but their effort this season has been incredible and they have provided fans with some thrilling games, thank you boys!
