Brunswick, ME- The men's tennis team traveled to Bowdoin for fall regional ITA's. They started the day with a strong doubles win from pair
Simon Volkema and
Kush Anand. With big serves and sharp returns they downed their opponents 8-3. Sophomore
Nicholas Chen and partner
Matt Kandel followed suit, winning 8-3 to advance to the round of 16 tomorrow. The Ephs fell in the remaining doubles matches, leaving Chen and Kandel the lone pairing left in the draw.
In singles play, first year
Leon Liu battled against a top seed, ultimately falling in three hard fought sets. Anand also lost to an Amherst adversary. Volkema had one of the most exciting matches of the tournament, but after three hours, fell to a Tufts player.
Shawn Berdia won his first round, but fell in the second round to a Coast Guard player in three tough sets. Kandel remains the lone singles player in the draw after defeating an MIT opponent and then a Bowdoin player. Chen and Kandel return to action tomorrow morning in the round of 16.
